A shooting star

HEY! I'M SCOTTY SHAW

and I am here to teach you how to start and lead your own business THIS SUMMER!

MY STORY STARTED 13 YEARS AGO IN TEXAS.

When I was a student in high school, I often heard about kids who had already started their own companies and built their own apps and websites before they could even drive. Some of them could even pay their own college tuition.
BUT THOSE STORIES NEVER CAME FROM HERE.
I was frustrated. I often thought, "Those kids aren't smarter or more talented than us, and they definitely don't work harder than I do. We just don't have the same opportunities, mentors, and connections they have in places like New York City and California."
"WE CAN MAKE IT JUST AS FAR AS ANY OF THEM."
I was determined to prove it. In 2004, as a high school junior, I started a summer basketball league in downtown Waco and worked hard to get into Duke University, where I became known as The Fresh Duke, $cotty $haw. Throughout undergrad, I helped organize the annual Duke-Carolina Basketball Marathon to set the Guinness World Record in 2006 for the longest basketball game (Duke won!) and raise funds to support families whose children had life-threatening illnesses.

I also mentored local high school students at the Emily K Center as they aced the SAT, applied to world-class universities, and earned full-ride scholarships into schools such as the University of North Carolina. After graduating in 2009, I taught English in Taipei, Beijing, Shanghai, and Ulaanbaatar before settling into Silicon Valley to work full-time in Mountain View and tutor students from Palo Alto High School and Stanford University for $100 per hour at night.

Since then, I have completed Harvard Business School's HBX with High Honors, started my first company in Washington DC, managed and released three iOS apps in New York City, taught computer science and iOS engineering at tech workshops throughout the US and the UK (in YouTube's headquarters too!), and won an award for The Most Interesting App In The World at an international hackathon in London.
Fun times on my birthday!
I also made sure to give back to my alma mater by leading HackDuke, the official hackathon of Duke University. Under my leadership, we became the premier collegiate hackathon in 2014, then I tripled the leadership team and trained my protégés to quickly grow HackDuke into the largest ever (1,000 participants!) social good hackathon.
Happy birthday to me!
Next, I returned to Silicon Valley to manage 150 developers at an iOS Academy in San Francisco. Under my mentorship, they published countless apps, won several hackathons, and started multiple companies. Some of them have continued their training in my new start-up to become innovative tech entrepreneurs, and one has released his first EP as a rapper! As for myself, I have always been and am still creating, establishing, advising, and supporting hackathons so that anyone has the chance to start learning all the amazing skills they want and to inspire others to reach for the stars.

NOW I AM A STORY FROM TEXAS.

Mine started off like anyone else's, but I have been able to do so much since then. I graduated from elite schools and have lived on 4 continents. I learned how to build apps and websites, start and lead companies, and mentor those who follow my footsteps. I have met thousands of people and heard their stories. Now that you've heard mine, I want to hear yours!
